Mathematics is taught using the Mathematics Mastery programme in Reception through to Year 6. These schemes are based on approaches from Singapore and the new National Curriculum. This allows all pupils not only to be fluent in the fundamentals but to reason and solve problems by applying mathematical skills with increasing sophistication.
English is taught through the use of Read, Write Inc. (RWI) for Reception and KS1 children and Success for All (SFA) for KS2 children. Children are grouped according to their reading ability from Monday until Thursday, this is to ensure all children make accelerated progress in English. The core writing skills are taught across the curriculum and a focus on grammar, spelling, handwriting and punctuation is embedded across the school. A significant part of our entire curricular approach is the promotion of reading for pleasure. This is intertwined within all of our teaching because we passionately believe that when children love to read they will be more successful in all aspects of their learning.
