Mathematics is taught using the Mathematics Mastery programme in Reception through to Year 6. These schemes are based on approaches from Singapore and the new National Curriculum. This allows all pupils not only to be fluent in the fundamentals but to reason and solve problems by applying mathematical skills with increasing sophistication.
As a Federation we use The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to structure our provision for most non-core subjects and continue to excite pupils in all year groups. IPC topics are constantly updated and improved not only in terms of the National Curriculum statutory requirements but also in ways to assess and evaluate pupils’ standards of achievement.
English is taught through the use of Read, Write Inc. (RWI) for Reception and KS1 children and Success for All (SFA) for KS2 children. Children are grouped according to their reading ability from Monday until Thursday, this is to ensure all children make accelerated progress in English. The core writing skills are taught across the curriculum and a focus on grammar, spelling, handwriting and punctuation is embedded across the school. Accelerated Reader is also used in Year 2 and KS2 when the children are ready. This enhances our reading program and challenges the children to be independent learners.
